Since every rapper nowadays wants to have their own label, we need to distinguish who has legitimate artists and not just have a label where they are the only good artist (i.e. Game and Black Wallstreet, or 50 Cent and G-Unit Records). To me, the two labels that stick out the most right now in hip hop are Lil Wayne’s Young Money, who spawned stars like The Young Money White Knight, Former child star Drake, and the Queen MC, Nicki Minaj. Or is it Kanye West’s GOOD Music who has the cosmic Kid Cudi, Common, Pusha T, Mos Def, John Legend and more.
Wayne’s Young Money to me didn’t really make much noise until Drake joined the team. Before it was really just Wayne. I mean they had Jae Millz who is like the king of the battle rap in New York, and they also had the underaged Tyga. But, when Drizzy came through Young Money exploded! When he dropped So Far Gone, he single handedly shut the game down. Then came what I’ve been waiting for since my introduction to hip hop. Fellas I am going to admit, I love me some Nicki Minaj. The female whose “pants are mighty fitted” can rap circles around most dudes. I first saw her in the BET Hip Hop awards cypher, and heard he wreck Joe Budden and who ever else was there. Then I became a fan when she wrecked Ludacris on “My Chick Bad”. She is the only female MC that I just jam. I see some similarities with Lil Kim, but Nicki has better lyrics, a better flow, and one of the crackers deliveries in the entire game. So once I heard those two MCs and then heard the ‘We Are Young Money’ album. I applauded Wayne for snagging two of the next big things in the game. I kept this opinion until I heard about this thing called “GOOD Fridays”.
When Kanye West announced he was dropping a new album I was excited. I was actually a fan of his 808s project, but I still missed the old Kanye. Not the Kanye on songs like “Forever” but the Kanye from Graduation. I hears Power and I was disappointed. The beat was crazy but lyrics left something to be desired. Then Kanye announced that he was going to leak a new song every Friday until his album dropped. Therefore GOOD Fridays led me to GOOD Music. I began looking into the label and look at it’s roster (according to wikipedia) and I was amazed. See for yourself…. Kanye West John Legend Common Consequence GLC Tony Williams Kid Cudi Fonzworth Bentley Big Sean Malik Yusef Mr Hudson Really Doe Sa-Ra CyHi Da Prynce Pusha T Clipse Mos Def Charlie Wilson
That’s a heavy line up. Here’s YM’s Roster….
Lil Wayne Drake Mack Maine Nicki Minaj Tyga Gudda Gudda Jae Millz Lil Chuckee Lil Twist Shanell T-Streets Short Dawg Cory Gunz
So my question is, who has the better label??
